MLM Training – How to and Why You Should Use Personal Branding in Your Network Marketing Business
To begin, let me define “personal branding” for anyone who is not familiar with this term. Personal branding is really nothing more than marketing yourself with or “on top of” your business opportunity. You reveal to people what it is that makes you … YOU. This is not only your physical characteristics, but also things such as your character, your beliefs, your talents, your environment .. your home, the city and state in which you live, your family, your wife and children, your interests, etc.
Consider major label products on the market such as Coca Cola. “Coke – It’s the Real Thing” or “Have a Coke and a Smile” are slogans that Coca Cola used to brand itself. It’s no different when marketing yourself, you want to have something that sets you apart, that makes you unique, something that defines you in the marketplace.
Now that we know what personal branding is, how do we achieve this? It’s really fairly simple. The first step – if you do not already have one, get a personal web site for marketing your business. If you don’t know how to build your own site, there are lots of resources available to have this done easily and affordably. Find one you like and get your personal web site up and hosted online. It’s also very important that you always have the ability to make changes and edit your site as needed.
Once you have your own web site, you can personally brand yourself by adding pictures, videos, and your own textual content to your site. It is these things that will make your site unique to you. Note – if you are planning to use a replicated marketing web site, make sure you find one that will let you put your own pictures, video, and unique content (if possible) on it.
Why is this so important? Especially with online marketing, understand that people looking on the Internet for a business opportunity are immediately inundated with faceless, nameless “systems” all clamoring for their attention. They claim that “systems work and people fail.” They all are mistakenly attempting to take the human variable out of the equation. This is where you will set yourself apart if you do just the opposite. Understand that people still do business with people. They are looking for a real person, someone they can connect with, someone they feel they can trust, a mentor …someone they feel can teach them how to be successful. Remember this – Trust is the biggest factor that affects whether someone will do business with you or not.
The best way to accomplish this? Video Marketing. Make short videos of yourself and put them on your web site and also upload them to You Tube where people can see you and hear you speak. Just be yourself. Show people you are a real person. Maybe include your wife and kids and your home in the videos. Talk about why you are doing the business and why you chose the product or service your business promotes. If you have a story, tell that to people. Include the things that make you unique. Don’t try to make professional sales or promotional videos, people will respond much better if you just be yourself, even with all your imperfections, we all have them.
I have both experienced and seen this work time and time again for both myself and with my team in my own business … sales are made and people join because they have connected with and developed a trust with the person first.
